Makeup for the Doctor

I went to see my headshrinker today, and while I was doing my makeup I realized I was creating a much more natural look than I usually do.  I seem to be more conservative with my makeup if I'm going to see him, which is silly because he knows I have a beauty blog and used to work in the cosmetics industry and clearly love makeup.  What's weirder is I wear whatever kind of crazy/dramatic makeup I feel like wearing when going to see my GP.  So, who knows what my deal is.  *shrug*

Yes, my hair really was that weird.  It was windy and humid.

I wore NARS Laguna bronzer on my lids as an eyeshadow and on my cheeks as a bronzer.  I wore Maybelline Color Elixir lipgloss in Blush Essence on my lips, and I used Fresh Supernova mascara on my lashes (I'm trying to use up a little wee one I've had for a while).  So, some exciting makeup, clearly.

Do you change your look in any way when going to the doctor?

  1. I definitely used to do that with a shrink I saw ~10 years ago. He would give me a stern, disapproving look any time I said anything ridiculous or silly in our sessions (gotta focus on those SERIOUS ISSUES mmmkay) so I guess I internalized that somehow. I never wear makeup when I'm going to see a GP or any other doctor who's going to poke and prod me. Shrug.

  2. My previous psychiatrist could/would tell how well I was feeling by looking at my hair and makeup (or lack thereof) instead of just taking my word for how I was feeling.

It just occurred to me, maybe it would be different of the doctor was female? (The docs I see currently are all men.)

  3. That's an interesting question. The doc judging how you're feeling by your hair/makeup would drive me crazy. Some mornings you just wake up late and don't feel like putting on a ton of makeup, you know? I saw a woman doctor for a while and she never seemed to notice stuff like that, but she didn't wear makeup at all herself.

  4. What a pretty, natural look! Love the way Laguna looks as an eye shadow on you. My therapist knows about my blog too and I think she's seen me sporting some pretty bold makeup looks from time to time ;)

  5. I've learned that many bronzers make great eyeshadows (yay for multitasking products!). The little extra shimmer in Laguna brings some light to the eyes.

  6. I think he would mostly notice if my hair was semi-done and I had a little makeup on. Not really like a full face of it.

  7. I definitely do the same thing when I go see my head shrinker, I think it has something to do with the fact so many people judge your illness on how you look. You can look great on the outside but a total mess on the inside. Sometimes I don't even wear any makeup!!... I want to see if I can scare him.....LOL!!

  8. I've relied on makeup to be a sort of "happy mask" in the past, certainly.
