Makeup for the Doctor

I went to see my headshrinker today, and while I was doing my makeup I realized I was creating a much more natural look than I usually do.  I seem to be more conservative with my makeup if I'm going to see him, which is silly because he knows I have a beauty blog and used to work in the cosmetics industry and clearly love makeup.  What's weirder is I wear whatever kind of crazy/dramatic makeup I feel like wearing when going to see my GP.  So, who knows what my deal is.  *shrug*

Yes, my hair really was that weird.  It was windy and humid.

I wore NARS Laguna bronzer on my lids as an eyeshadow and on my cheeks as a bronzer.  I wore Maybelline Color Elixir lipgloss in Blush Essence on my lips, and I used Fresh Supernova mascara on my lashes (I'm trying to use up a little wee one I've had for a while).  So, some exciting makeup, clearly.

Do you change your look in any way when going to the doctor?

Orange Lips

One of the big makeup trends this spring is orange lip colors.  Not coral or peach, but orange.  I don't actually own more than two "true" orange lip products, but I have a few that are kind of orange-y or orange-ish.

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Rendezvous -- This is probably the truest orange lippie I own.  It has a smooth and balmy texture on application and can be easily sheered out to make the color less intense.  It isn't as moisturizing as a regular balm, but it is not drying (like I thought it would be because of the staining effect).  It's a medium orange with a little shimmer.

MAC Tinted Lipglass in Pink Lemonade -- A pearly, peachy pinky orange with quite a lot of pigmentation.  It is a Tinted Lipglass, so it's got the vanilla scent and the stickiness that MAC Lipglasses are known for.  I love this in the summer.

L'Oreal Colour Riche Colour Caresse in Sunset Angora -- This definitely has pink in it, but I think it's a wee bit orange-y.  It has a lovely, light balmy feel that I find slightly moisturizing.  I think it looks great with cheek colors like warm pinks, corals, peaches, and even just bronzer.  I've even worn it with a cool-toned pink blush (Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Dollface), and thought it worked well.

Jemma Kidd Ultimate Lipstick Duo in Ingrid -- A dark orange-y coral with a little red in it.  It has a balm on one end and a lipstick on the other.  The lipstick is quite creamy, so I'm not sure why a balm is paired with it.  I wish the bullet was bigger.  I feel like I'm going to use this up quickly, and it's a discontinued product, I believe (I bought mine on amazon.com).

Shiseido The Makeup Lipgloss in G13 Red Coral -- I consider this to be the other true orange lip product I own, although it is on the sheer side, so quite a bit of my natural lip color shows through.  This is a dinosaur in my collection, and I don't think it's available anymore except maybe on ebay or possibly amazon.com.  It it a sheer, sparkly orange that looks much darker and brighter in the tube than on the lips.

So, there are my most orange-y lip colors.  My favorite is the Revlon Balm Stain in Rendezvous.  I have been considering adding NYX Lip Butter Gloss in Cherry Cheesecake to my collection...

Do you have any favorite orange lippies?

P.S. Sorry about the lack of lip swatches.  I'm feeling supremely lazy.

April in the D Face of the Day

So, it's baseball time again, which means it's time for me to do some blue and orange makeup!  Instead of using orange and blue colors on the eyes all at once like I usually do, I decided to use a tiny bit of blue liner, and wear the orange on the cheeks and lips.

Eyes:
Elizabeth Mott pop! goes the shadow eyeshadow in Champagne from the lashes to the brows
Chella Eyeliner Pen in Indigo Blue on the upper lashline
L'Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara (one light coat)

Cheeks:
Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer in Milk Chocolate as contour
MAC Sheertone Shimmer Blush in Foolish Me

Lips:
Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Rendezvous

I don't seem to have any really true orange blushes.  MAC blush in Foolish Me is the most non-coral orange blush I have in my stash.  And it's still on the peachy side.  Oddly enough, it's the only MAC blush I own.

The Chella liquid liner (which I got in an Ipsy bag), is a really beautiful color, but it kind of gives me trouble.  The applicator seems slightly scratchy, and I have to use the side of the brush to get any color from it.  I can't use the very tip of it.  I don't know if it's already drying out or what, but it bugs me.

Have an exquisitely lovely day!

Grape Hyacinth Inspired EotD

I finally have a couple grape hyacinths blooming!  They inspired me to use blue-y purple and grassy green shadows together.

This one looks so happy with the crocus blooming next to it.

I used some ancient Shiseido cream/mousse shadows for the main purple and green colors.  They are so very gorgeous, but because they are so soft they tend to crease on my eyes rather quickly.

However, this was as creas-y as the purple got, even after a few hours (I took the above photo probably 30 min after application).

Even though these are old, I can't seem to part with them.  And they seem like they are still okay, even though they probably aren't.  They haven't dried out or changed texture, so, whatever.  Hopefully I won't end up blind from using old eyeshadows...

Products:
Shiseido Hydrolight Eyeshadow in H6 (blue purple) on the moving lid
Shiseido Hydrolight Eyeshadow in H7 (grass green) on lower lashline
from the Wet 'n' Wild Petal Pusher palette -- deep purple "crease" color in the crease
Wet 'n' Wild Color Icon single in Brulee under the brow
Jordana 12HR Made to Last Liquid Eyeliner Pencil in 06 Jade Jewel on the waterline
   L'Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara

Slightly out of focus to show just how shimmery!
I love how this turned out!

Do you have any old products you can't bear to part with, and find yourself using, even though you know you shouldn't?

Smoky Blue EotD

Another eye of the day post using the Kat Von D Chrysalis palette.

I used the Sephora Jumbo Liner 12HR Wear crayon in Marine as a base, which intensified the blue.

Products:
Sephora Jumbo Liner 12HR Wear in Marine on the moving lid
Kat Von D Chrysalis palette --
entombed (shimmery royal blue) on the lid and lower lashline
glasswing (matte tan) in the crease
lifelike (matte cream) under the brow and in the inner corner
Prestige Cosmetics Total Intensity Eyeliner in Fierce Blue
     L'Oreal Voluminous Butterfly mascara

Here's a really serious full-face shot with some funky hair.

I have Maybelline Bouncy Blush in Peach Silk on my cheeks, and Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Demure on my lips.

Have a stellar day, and thank you so much for visiting!

Butterfly Plums EotD

I used the new Kat Von D Chrysalis palette for this Eye (or is it eyes?) of the Day.

I used the shimmery silvery mauve shade (called "transition") on the moving lid, the sparkling purple shade (called "mezzanine") in the crease, and the matte cream shade (called "lifelike") under the brow.  I also used Sonia Kashuk gel liner in Ebony and L'Oreal Voluminous Butterfly mascara.

Then, later in the day, I decided to add some of the darkest plum (called "hybrid moments") to the outer corner and lower lashline to make it all smokey and dramatic and whatnot.

from left: hybrid moments, mezzanine, transition, lifelike

I'm still trying to figure out if the names of the shadows in this palette are supposed to be butterfly-related.

When you eat a chocolate bunny, what part do you eat first?  Personally, I gnaw on the ears and then work my way down.

What To Do With Boxes?

I've noticed I keep some of my higher-end products in their boxes.  I mean, I take them out, use them, and put them back in the box.  But only some of them.  Weird, no?

Does anyone else do this?

2014 Early Spring Garden

Time for a garden post!  I now have lots of things coming up, and even a few are blooming.

Dwarf Iris (My neighbor said they didn't even look real!)

Crocus (No purples yet for some reason)

Hyacinth

Pulmonaria

Allium (When these started coming up I was totally baffled as to what they were.  My husband had to remind me we planted alliums next to the yellow and red tulips last fall.)

Black Parrot Tulip

Scilla (We didn't plant these.  They are naturally growing in our back yard as wildflowers.)

I love the shapes of the emerging plants.

And then it snowed the day after I took those photos.

Snow on the Boxwoods...

On the Crocuses...

And on the Hellebore buds...

It looks like everything survived the snow and overnight mid 20 degree temps.

I can't wait for more flowers!
