On a personal note:
In case you were curious, I was out of town without my laptop last week, which is why I didn't post for a few days.  I was busy with this:

Yep.  I bought a new (used) car (a 2013 Chevy Cruze).  I had to say goodbye to my 15 year-old Saturn Coupe, which made me quite sad.  I loved that little red car -- it was a stick shift, had a sun roof, and was generally kind of sporty.  But, cars don't last forever, and it was definitely time (possibly past time) to trade it in.

I haven't named my new car yet, but my old car was named Eloise (one my favorite childhood literary characters).

Goodbye Eloise!

I'm getting all teary-eyed.

Colorful Eyes With Darling Girl and Too Faced

Colorful, dramatic, slightly smokey, and very sparkly eye of the day!  I used Darling Girl loose shadow in Leviathan (shimmery duochrome teal with gold sparkles), Darling Girl loose shadow in Here's Johnny (plum with pink and aqua sparkles), and Miss Sparkle (sparkling black) from the Too Faced Pretty Rebel Palette.

I'm lucky enough to have a husband who appreciates colorful, sparkly makeup!  (He is the the one who has to look at me, after all.)

Have a gorgeous day, and thanks for visiting!

BFTE Orchid and Naked 3 EotD

This was inspired by the look that Phyrra did here (and here is her YouTube video tutorial for it).  I loved the way BFTE's Orchid eyeshadow looked with the Naked 3 palette so much, that I decided I NEEDED Orchid.

(photos with flash)

(photos with daylight bulb)

I used in this order:
  Urban Decay Naked 3 palette
-- Limit (matte dusky pink) in the crease and a little above the crease
-- Nooner (matte plummy light brown) in the crease
-- Strange (satin cream) under the brow and to blend out Limit
BFTE Cosmetics loose mineral eyeshadow in Orchid (sparkly light purple) on the lid
Tarte Skinny Smolder Eyes pencil in Onyx on the lower waterline
  Maybelline Full 'N Soft Mascara

This shows the sparkliness of Orchid.)

Obviously, I didn't copy her look step for step as this was just inspired by it, and I was trying out Orchid for the first time.  (I didn't add the dark color to the outer corner or the shimmery color to the lower lashline.)  I love the combo of the colors so much and the way it looks on her, that I probably will do it identically next time!

Do any bloggers/vloggers inspire you to try specific looks?

Sally Hansen Triple Shine Nail Color in Blow Bubbles Review and Swatches

Sally Hansen recently (autumn 2013) added a new line of polishes to their line-up with a new formula that is "designed to help polish withstand the wear and tear of everyday living for non-stop shine." (from the Sally Hansen website)

Other statements from the Sally Hansen website about the Triple Shine formula:
  • -Gloss is protected with the Ultimate Shield Complex
  • -Daily defense from water and wear
  • -Natural crushed pearl delivers high impact, glossy color
  • -Creates non-stop shine
  • -Available in 29 shades
I have Blow Bubbles to show you today.

The black cap pulls off to reveal a standard screw-off top.

The brush is flat with firm bristles, and it's slightly rounded at the tip.

Blow Bubbles is an iridescent bubblegum pink with a tiny bit of blue shift.

I actually had a difficult time capturing the color accurately, so use these swatches aren't as helpful as they should be, I suppose.  The photos make it look much more cool-toned than it is in person.  I think the camera just can't read the iridescence the way human eyes can.  (I don't tone my photos either.  I actually tried to with these, and I still couldn't get the color to match what I was seeing with my own eyeballs.)

This color is on the sheer side, so one coat just gives a hint of color, and three gives full color.

one coat

three coats

The formula is easy to work with and spreads nicely.  It dries quite quickly, as long as you apply thin coats.  The finish is very shiny, so top coat is optional in my opinion.  It lasts for at least 4 days on me without chipping (I usually change my nail color every 4-5 days anyway), and remains quite shiny.

Sally Hansen polishes are 5 Free (don't contain Formaldehyde, Toluene, DPB, Formaldehyde resin, Camphor).  Triple Shine Nail Color retails for around $5 USD.

Pink and Gold Eyes with the Too Faced Pretty Rebel Palette

I think I finally figured out how to use the vibrant pink eyeshadow in the Too Faced Pretty Rebel palette.  A very tiny amount on the brush is all that is needed.  Admittedly, this is not the most wearable look for everyday, but I quite like the way this look turned out, so lots of photos today!  It reminds me of the colors you might see in a sari.

I blended the hot pink color over the gold color, which I think ended up being really interesting and beautiful.
