Throwback Thursday With NARS

NARS used to have liquid eyeliners in nail polish-type bottles.  I believe they were introduced around 2001.  The three that I own probably date from 2005.  I'm not sure when they discontinued this type of packaging.

The shades I have are Neverland, Showgirl, and Silkwood.

There weren't any brushes included with these, so you had to supply your own.

Here are some swatches I did using q-tips.

The colors are pretty awesome, aren't they?  I think I used these once or twice and I kind of remember not being very good at applying them.  I'm now afraid to use them because they are so old.  I think they are destined for the trash.

I received these as gratis when I was working at Sephora years and years ago.

  1. I love your posts about old makeup products! They always make me chuckle. These seem pretty pigmented! I think I wouldn't be pretty lousy at applying them, too.

  2. The most annoying/difficult thing about this packaging was how impossible it was to see how far in the bottle the brush was going. Sometimes, nothing would get on it, and other times a TON would be on the brush.

  3. Interesting. The colors are very pretty, but I feel like the bottles would drive me insane. Like if you dip a regular eyeliner brush in there you'll probably get some product on the handle and make a big mess? Blah!

This is so weird! I wasn't wearing makeup in 2005 so I never would've known about these. The bottle concept is interesting, I was actually expecting a tiny brush. The shades are really pretty though!

  5. That was exactly the problem. Easy to see the color outside the bottle, impossible to see how much product on the brush.

  6. A little brush in the cap would have made these much easier to use. They look pretty in the bottle, though, don't they?

  8. Oh some PRETTY colors! The packaging doesn't look very practical but I'm sure back then it was probably really cool. I wouldn't risk my eyes with it now, though, considering that it's been opened for almost 10 years! :)

  9. Definitely too old to use. I'd be afraid of blinding myself. lol

  10. A brush that worked specifically with that nail polish bottle type of packaging really would have helped.
