MSU Go Green Face of the Day

So, the Michigan vs Michigan State football game was a couple weeks ago, and I thought I would cheer on the team by going crazy with some shimmery green smoky eyes (MSU colors are green and white) and peach lips.  I also wore my blingy Spartans shirt.  Michigan State is playing Ohio State this evening, which is the other big game of the season for them, so this look would work for today, too.  Hmmm.  Maybe I need to replicate it seeing as how it worked last time (MSU won).

Eyes:
from the Urban Decay Naked Palette -- Naked eyeshadow in the crease
L'Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Golden Emerald on the lid and lower lashline
Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Eyeshadow in  Bone under the brow
Jordana 12 Hour Made To Last Liquid Eyeliner Pencil in Jade Jewel on the lower waterline
   L'Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara

Cheeks:

Lips:
Too Faced La Creme Color Drenched Lip Cream lipstick in Shimmer Naked Dolly

The star of this look is definitely the L'Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Golden Emerald.  It is ridiculously pretty.

Blurry to show that sparkle!

It sparkles on the eyes.

I'm convinced that MSU won the game because of my smoky eyes and sparkling Spartans shirt.

Go Green!  Go White!

Hey, I have a question.  It is "smoky" or "smokey" with an e?

Birthday Face of the Day

It's my birthday today!  I am now 38 years old.  I still don't feel like a grown-up.

Surprisingly, I didn't do anything fancy with my eye makeup today.  Instead, I'm wearing some matte neutrals from the Urban Decay Pulp Fiction Palette.  I did put on some nice pinks on my lips and cheeks that I thought looked nice with the fuchsia shirt I am wearing.

I look overly serious for my birthday.

On my eyes:
from the Urban Decay Pulp Fiction Palette
--- Righteous (matte cream) all over the lid up to the brow
--- Tyranny (matte tan) in the crease
--- Furious (matte black) as liner on the upper lashes

   Mally Voluminous Mascara

On my cheeks:
from the Tarte Pin Up blush palette
         --- Whimsy (matte cool pink)

On my lips:
Sephora Lip Glitters Retractable Pencil in Pink (glittery cool pink)

Here's a pic to show the sparkle in the Sephora Lip Glitters lip crayon.  Pretty!

I'm not doing anything particularly interesting for my birthday.  I had a bagel with smoked salmon cream cheese for lunch, which was nice.

My husband and I celebrated my birthday on Sunday, and I will celebrate with my parents later in the month when they come to Detroit to go to the opera.

I decided to buy the Urban Decay Pulp Fiction Palette after reading that it was pretty similar to the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette (which I don't own) and it went on sale.  It's quite a nice little palette!  I'm glad I jumped on the Tarte Pin-Up blush palette when I did instead of waiting for the Sephora 20% off sale.  It is now out of stock on the Sephora website, which I figured would happen. Hopefully they will restock it because it is a really great palette.

Google knows it's my birthday.  Cool or creepy?

Have a wonderful day, and thank you for visiting!

Birthday Dinner Eyes and Nails With Kat Von D and Butter London

My birthday is tomorrow, so my husband took me out to dinner on Sunday (we most likely won't have time on my actual birthday).  We went to my favorite Indian restaurant, of course.  I got several compliments on my eye makeup, so I thought I'd show it to you.  I didn't plan on photographing/ posting it, but if strangers like it, then maybe it's worth sharing.

I used:
from the Kat Von D Chrysalis Eyeshadow Palette
--- Glasswing (matte dark tan) in the crease
--- Melancholia (shimmery metallic pewter) on the inner 2/3 of lid and lower lashline
--- Graphic Nature (dark shimmery grey) on the outer 1/3 of lid and lightly in the crease
--- Lifelike (matte cream) under the brow

from the Kat Von D Monarch Palette
--- Telepathy (shimmery platinum) in the inner corner by the tear duct
--- Deadhead (matte black) as liner on the upper and lower lashlines

from left: Glasswing, Melancholia, Graphic Nature, Lifelike, Deadhead, Telepathy

Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner in Perversion on the waterlines
  Mally Voluminizing Mascara in Black

On my nails, I wore Butter London's Queen Vic with Butter London's Lovely Jubbly on top.

Lovely Jubbly is an awesome sparkle bomb with multi-colored glitter.

This is only one coat of Lovely Jubbly!  It has sooooo much glitter.

You can probably expect a birthday haul post in the near future...

Have a wonderful day!

New Technology

Man, I feel like I am behind on the blogging front, both posting and reading/commenting on my favorite blogs.  I'm sorry it's been taking me so long to respond to comments.  I've just been doing stuff that has been taking up time that I usually use for blogging.

Anyhow, I did this to my phone the other day:

Fantastic, right?

Well, I did need an updated phone anyway, I suppose.  So, I got this:

A new iPhone 6!

It is quite lightweight and skinny, but definitely bigger than my old iPhone 4.

Now, I'm going to let you in on a secret.  I use my phone to take all my photos for the blog.  Maybe you had already figured this out because often my photos aren't super great quality.  I decided to use my phone because the old camera I own is not as good as the camera in the iPhone (even the old 4).  I think my photos are sufficient for what I do here on the blog, although I will admit that some swatches require a bit of tweaking to try to get the color more true to life.  I'm hoping this new iPhone with the improved camera will take more true to color photos.

The new iPhone has James Bond spy-esque fingerprint recognition technology that seems crazily futuristic to me.

I'm having fun with my new phone.  I think it may take me a while to learn how to use it to its full potential, and to get used to how light and skinny it is.

How old is your cell phone (if you have one!)?

Happy Halloween (Fashion and FotD)

It's finally Halloween!  Time to binge on candy and horror movies!

I didn't do any unusual costume or makeup this year, but I went with a bit of a spiderweb theme for my clothes and jewelry for the day.

I just did some (what I think are) awesome smokey eyes for my makeup.

I used:
from the Urban Decay Naked Palette--Naked (matte tan) in the crease
Creep (sparkling dark gray) in the outer and inner corners
Virgin (shimmery shell) under the brows
from the Too Faced Pretty Rebel Palette -- Miss Sparkles (sparkling black) in the outer v
Fyrinnae loose pigment in Velvet Vampire (sparkly rust red) in the center of the lid

I followed the same pattern as the upper lid on the lower lashline.

Velvet Vampire, Miss Sparkles (swatched dry 'cause that's how it used 'em)

LORAC Front of the Line PRO Liquid Eyeliner in black along the upper lashes
Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner in Perversion on the waterlines
  Mally Voluminizing Mascara in Black

Cheeks: BFTE Babycakes Blush

Lips: MAKE UP FOR EVER Rouge Artist Natural in N9

from left: BFTE Babycakes Blush, MUFE Rouge Artist Natural in N9

This photo makes it look like I put my blush on weird and unevenly, but it's just the lighting.  I swear.

I found some cool nail stickers (the kind that are nail polish in sticker form, so they are long-lasting).

I kinda wish I had attempted some "spiderweb" eyeliner.

Did you dress up for Halloween?

P.S. The weather here was miserable for trick or treating (37°F and rainy).  Many of the kids that visited my house were wearing mittens.
