Let This Blue Shadow Take Center Stage

Hey hey, everybody!  I hope all is well with you guys!  I've been a little bit stressed the past week or so, because one of my Mom and Dad's cats escaped from their house and has been missing since July 2.  :(  She's strictly an indoor cat, so we're pretty worried about her.  She needs to come home, like, yesterday.  They've been doing everything the experts suggest (flyers, posters, a front yard sign, humane traps around the house and neighborhood, etc.), and the ASPCA say that 70-75% of missing kitties are reunited with their families, so I have lots of hope that she will be home soon.  I know there are some people who would say "it's just a cat," but our cats are family members and very important to us.  We love them so much!

Anyhow, I'm really enjoying my Makeup Geek eyeshadows.  So much so that I ordered a bunch more.  A bunch.  Yeah.  (I believe they are going to arrive tomorrow.)  I, of course, had to do a smoky eye with the dark blue shade called "Center Stage," which is one of the foiled eyeshadows offered by Makeup Geek.

Sephora Sun Disk Swatches

I spotted the Sephora Sun Disk on the Sephora website a few weeks ago.  Sephora makes these limited edition extra large bronzers each year, I think.  The design of this one (kind of looks like tiger stripes, right?) really drew me in.

Face of the Day With a Pop of Sugar From Too Faced

I used the very cute Too Faced Sugar Pop Eyeshadow Collection (aka eyeshadow palette) a couple of days ago (I posted a pic on Instagram of my eyes) -- Chelle's post is what really inspired me.  I also used a boatload of bronzer.  I've also been doing some self-tanning, so yeah, I have some color to my skin.

A Fancy Face of the Day

So, this look isn't particularly fancy, but the makeup I used is.  No drugstore products used for this FotD.

Detroit Tigers Opening Day Face of the Day

Baseball's back!  Today was opening day at Comerica Park in Detroit, and the first Tigers game of the season.  I watched the game on Fox Sports Detroit with Rod, Mario, and Gibby (Kirk Gibson) on commentary, which is always fun.  Of course I had to use some Tigers colors (orange and blue) on my face.

Michigan State Basketball Final Four Look of the Day (featuring Emma)

MSU is playing in the Final Four (the semi-final game in the NCAA basketball tournament) this evening, so I absolutely had to use some green and white eyeshadows today.  I went rather dramatic with this look.

Spring-y Pinks with Urban Decay and Becca

I know it's only February, but I cannot wait for spring.  Maybe that's why I'm tending to use so many colors that feel spring-y (as in spring inspired, not elastic and bouncy).  Of course, I had to use the Urban Decay Vice 3 palette.

Pardon the wet hair.

Perfect Pairing: Purple and Peach Look of the Day

Nice alliteration in the post title, eh?

I've been doing a "shop my stash" type of thingy lately (y'know, where you go through your collection and find something you haven't worn in a while and make it a point to use it).  One of the things I put in my "use this product" basket is Milani's Baked Blush in Luminoso.  Nikki from Nikki Tutorials has been raving about and using this blush a lot in her videos lately, and it made me want to pull it out, which then gave me the idea to "shop my stash."

What's New?

First off, I apologize for the complete radio silence for the past couple of weeks, but I have been quite under the weather with a bout of bronchitis.

I took this photo November 13th.  Too soon for snow!

Anyhow, I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving (for those of you who celebrate!)!  I had a very laid back day with my husband at home.  Even though I am still feeling crummy, I did manage to make us a very mediocre Thanksgiving dinner.

Some very exciting news: we got a new furnace!

Shiny new furnace!

Old (ancient) furnace

We put off buying one last year, but this year the yearly inspection revealed a crack in one of the face plates, which is pretty dangerous.  Besides, the old furnace was built in 1983, and it was rather inefficient.  I'm guessing it was older than many of you, dear readers!  The new furnace is over 96% efficient and Energy Star rated.  Fancy!

In other news, I bought some stuff during the Sephora sale (after my birthday was over, so I didn't include it in my birthday haul post).  Unfortunately, I have been feeling so poorly that I haven't played with any of it yet.

So, that's what's new with me.  How have you been?

Birthday Haulage

I got some stuff for my birthday.  It was nice that the Ulta 20% off coupon and the Sephora VIB sale coincided with it.

From Ulta:

Olay Regenerist Serum: This is a staple in my skincare routine, and I was out of it.  Not very exciting.

Olay Regenerist Cleansing Cloths: There were free with the serum.  Not very exciting.

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palette: Very exciting.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in Turn On: I have heard nothing but raves for this lip pencil, so I really wanted to try one.  Turn On is a slightly pearlescent cool rose.

Japonesque Pro Performance Lipstick in 05: I haven't heard anything about these, but the color looked so pretty I decided to try it.  This is a niiiiiiice lipstick.  I'll try to do a review soon.

From Sephora:

Josie Maran Pure Argan Oil: A staple in my skincare routine.  Not particularly exciting, but a nice, luxurious purchase.

Sephora Daily Makeup Brush Cleaner: A necessity.  Not exciting.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Tamanna Palette: Very Exciting.  I missed out on the Amrezy palette, but I'm now okay with that.  I read that this one is better quality, and the colors and packaging are beautiful.

I like the "Get the Look" cards that come with it.

I kind of have eyeshadow palettes coming out my ears (great visual, right?), but they are my weakness.

I also got some sparkly Tarina Tarantino pink gumball earrings.

And, I got some free cereal bowls with the purchase of some cereal.  I chose Tony the Tiger and Toucan Sam.

I bought a couple more things from the Sephora VIB sale which haven't arrived yet...

Yay for birthdays, right?

Birthday Face of the Day

It's my birthday today!  I am now 38 years old.  I still don't feel like a grown-up.

Surprisingly, I didn't do anything fancy with my eye makeup today.  Instead, I'm wearing some matte neutrals from the Urban Decay Pulp Fiction Palette.  I did put on some nice pinks on my lips and cheeks that I thought looked nice with the fuchsia shirt I am wearing.

I look overly serious for my birthday.

On my eyes:
from the Urban Decay Pulp Fiction Palette
--- Righteous (matte cream) all over the lid up to the brow
--- Tyranny (matte tan) in the crease
--- Furious (matte black) as liner on the upper lashes

   Mally Voluminous Mascara

On my cheeks:
from the Tarte Pin Up blush palette
         --- Whimsy (matte cool pink)

On my lips:
Sephora Lip Glitters Retractable Pencil in Pink (glittery cool pink)

Here's a pic to show the sparkle in the Sephora Lip Glitters lip crayon.  Pretty!

I'm not doing anything particularly interesting for my birthday.  I had a bagel with smoked salmon cream cheese for lunch, which was nice.

My husband and I celebrated my birthday on Sunday, and I will celebrate with my parents later in the month when they come to Detroit to go to the opera.

I decided to buy the Urban Decay Pulp Fiction Palette after reading that it was pretty similar to the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette (which I don't own) and it went on sale.  It's quite a nice little palette!  I'm glad I jumped on the Tarte Pin-Up blush palette when I did instead of waiting for the Sephora 20% off sale.  It is now out of stock on the Sephora website, which I figured would happen. Hopefully they will restock it because it is a really great palette.

Google knows it's my birthday.  Cool or creepy?

Have a wonderful day, and thank you for visiting!

Mulberry Nails and Look of the Day

There are times when I like being all match-y match-y with my makeup.  But instead of doing the traditional match-y match-y thing with my lips and nails, I decided to try to match my nails to my eyeshadow.

Butter London's Queen Vic is a wonderful berry shade that seems like a rather fall friendly color to me, and it's the shade I wanted to wear on my eyes, too.

Butter London Nain Lacquer in Queen Vic (sunlight)

So, the shadow I used doesn't match the nail color perfectly, but I liked the result nonetheless.

I used: from the Sephora Color Anthology Palette
--- berry purple on the moving lid
--- warm shimmery brown in the crease
--- light matte peach above the crease to blend out the brown
--- matte cream under the brow and inner corner

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Eye Pencil in 1999
Physicians Formula Eye Booster liquid eyeliner in Ultra Black
          Maybelline Full 'N Soft Mascara

Cheeks: Milani Baked Powder Blush in Berry Amore

Lips: NARS Lipstick in Dolce Vita

And then, later in the day, I decided to put on a berry lipgloss (MAKE UP FOR EVER lipgloss that was discontinued ages ago) just for the heck of it.

I think I look paler in this photo because I'm shiny and reflective (I didn't remember to reapply powder before I took it.)

The Sephora Color Anthology Palette was available around the holidays last year, but I snagged it on sale in the spring.  I noticed that Ulta has a palette on their website (by Beauty Gems) that looks exactly like it.  I suspect it is actually the same palette but without the Sephora nameplate on the front.

Earworm of the day: Lady Gaga's "Applause" -- it's on my workout playlist, and today it just stuck afterward.
