Almay Color + Care Liquid Lip Balm in Lilac Love Swatches and Review

It seems like Almay doesn't generally get too much attention or love for some reason.  Maybe they've had sort of average/boring products for too long.  I think they are really stepping up they're game recently, though.  I don't think they offered any lip products for a few years (correct me if I'm wrong), but last year they introduced a liquid lip balm.  I've been on the radiant orchid kick, and I had been wanting try one of these "balms" for a while because I'd heard good things about them.  I decided to try the color Lilac Love, which seems like a color that fits with the whole orchid color theme that Pantone decided would be the "color of the year".

The applicator on the wand is a standard slanted doe-foot tip.

It has pretty good pigmentation (although on the lips it has less pigment than the swatches), feels like a medium-weight gloss (not too thin, not too heavy), not at all sticky, and quite hydrating.  It has a fairly strong vanilla scent that lingers slightly after application.

Lilac Love has very very tiny blue glitters in it that aren't really apparent on the lips unless you are looking in a magnification mirror.

This "liquid lip balm" is, I think, just a more interesting name for a hydrating lip gloss.

I'm pretty impressed by this "liquid lip balm" and really like the color.

It matches Sally Hansen's Complete Salon Manicure in Punch Drunk quite nicely.

Have you tried any of these liquid lip balms?

10 of My Favorite Makeup Items From 2013

I thought I'd share a few of my favorites makeup items of the year.  I didn't include skincare or haircare because I've done favorites and empties posts for them, and they don't really change for me.

Some of these were introduced this year, and some were new to me.  All of these became favorites of mine.

In no particular order:

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser -- This has a nice lightweight formula that doesn't settle into the lines around my eyes.  It covers decently, and I think it is quite fun to use because of the little puff applicator.

Maybelline Color Elixir lipgloss (review) -- I think these have a lovely formula.  They were introduced late in the year, but they quickly became a favorite of the year.  They are some of the nicest lipglosses on the market, in my opinion.  They feel plush and hydrating on the lips.

Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Sticks (review) -- These smell wonderful (if you like fruity scents), are very hydrating, and make the lips feel softer, even after they wear off.

Too Faced Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blush in Candy Glow-- I like that this has 3 colors of blush that you can either swirl together, or use just the coral color or the pink color (although you need a smaller brush to pick up just one color or the other).  I do consider this a highlighting blush due to the shimmer, but it doesn't look glittery on the skin.

Josie Maran Coconut Water Cheek Gelee in Poppy Paradise (swatch) -- This blush is great for giving a natural flush to the cheeks.  It's very easy to apply (I always use my fingers for this one) and feels sort of cooling, which is especially nice in the summer.

Too Faced Pretty Rebel Palette -- I didn't get this palette until November, but it is one of the best palettes I own.  The shadows are very pigmented and soft, and there is an excellent mix of neutrals, brights, metallics, and darks.

Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy -- This was one of the great discoveries of the year for me.  It is amazing how different shimmery and glittery shadows and pigments look over this.

Benefit They're Real Mascara -- I really only wear this when I want dramatic lashes.  It separates, volumizes, and lengthens all at once.  It is more difficult to remove than most non-waterproof mascaras which is why I don't wear it everyday.

JinSoon Nail Laquer in Nostalgia (review) -- This is my favorite nude nail color.  The formula is long-wearing and shiny, even without a top coat.

Sally Hansen Lustre Shine Nail Color in Firefly  (swatches)-- I wore this almost non-stop in the fall.  It's a complex color that changes from pinky copper to gold with some green depending on how the light hits it.

Obviously, this is not a complete list of favorites (that could get very long), but just a few that stood out to me.

What are some of your favorites from 2013?

Burt's Bee Tinted Lip Balm in Pink Blossom Swatches and Review

Burt's Bees is one of the truly "natural" and eco-friendly cosmetic companies on the market.  I find much of their skincare to bee a little too "plant-based" for my skin (it contains naturally fragrant and potentially irritating ingredients), but this tinted lip balm doesn't have any those problems.

This is very smooth, emollient and fairly lightweight for a balm.  It feels nice and moisturizing, but it isn't very long-lasting because it is lightweight.  It is also on the glossy side for a lip balm.  It has a very (very) slight light floral scent (flower-derived) that disappears immediately on application (you really have to sniff the stick of the balm to smell it).

Pink Blossom is a light pink with a very tiny amount of shimmer that just makes the balm look more shiny.

I'm wearing MAC Woodwinked eyeshadow, Josie Maran Coconut Cheek Gelee in Poppy Paradise, and Maybelline Mega-Plush mascara in Black

Burt's Bee Tinted Lip Balm in Pink Blossom is a winner in my book.  The color is perfect for a natural look, and is a wonderful earth-friendly product.

This retails for $7.00 and comes in 9 shades.

Nivea Lip Butter in Raspberry Rose Kiss Review

Nivea came out with a lip balm called a lip butter not too long ago (maybe 6 months or so) and it sounded like they were quite popular.  I always apply lip balm before bed, so I decided I wanted to try this one. I like fruity scented lip products better than vanilla or sweet scents, and unscented seems so boring, so I bought Raspberry Rose Kiss.

It comes in a thin little tin that is rather cute.  It is a very pale pink in the tin, and it swatches and applies a little pink, but it seems to become clear when I rub my lips together.

It has a fruity berry scent (very much like raspberries) but no flavor, it is smooth without being too slick and isn't at all sticky, and it is slightly glossy.  I think the name "lip butter" is a good description.

I find it to be quite hydrating and it seems to be keeping my lips very smooth.  I like it so much that I've been applying it a few times a day (often after my gloss wears off, or before I wear lipstick) as well as at bedtime.

This balm comes in four scents:  Smooth Kiss (unscented), Raspberry Rose Kiss, Caramel Cream Kiss, Vanilla & Macadamia Kiss

I bought mine at CVS for $3.99.

I love this balm!

Revlon Lip Butter Swatches

I love the Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters.  It seems like everyone else does too!  They are very moisturizing with a medium-weight feel on the lips and give a nice dose of color.  I thought I would do a few swatches of my favorite colors.

Peach Parfiat is a very pretty medium peach.  Strawberry Shortcake is a cool candy pink.  Berry Smoothie is a medium berry.  Cotton Candy is a cool pink with some gold shimmer.

Strawberry Shortcake and Cotton Candy are fairly close in color.  Strawberry Shortcake is a little warmer than Cotton Candy, and Cotton Candy is sheerer with a little gold shimmer.
