Throwback Thursday with RareMinerals

Before BareMinerals had a proper skincare line, they had "RareMinerals."

RareMinerals Skin Revival Treatment was a nighttime treatment for the skin that was meant to be used over all the rest of your skincare.  The weird part?  It's a powder.  It's packaged in a jar with a powder puff on top, and it came in four colors (clear, light, medium, and tan).

I think this was introduced in 2006, and it was discontinued in 2011.  One of the selling points of this "treatment" was that it was made from "Jurassic, virgin soil."  I remember this because RareMinerals was introduced to the market when I was working at Sephora, and we sold it.  In fact, we couldn't keep it in stock the first few months it was out.

This product was marketed to be a nighttime skin treatment, but also a nighttime makeup.  It was marketed for the person who wants to shrink their pores, even out their skintone, and improve their skin; or for the person who was uncomfortable with their significant other seeing their completely bare skin, and wants something to wear to bed; or for the person who is always in a hurry (or running late) in the morning and wants to be able to roll out of bed and have a little coverage on their skin; or for the person who thinks their BareMinerals is "so natural, you can sleep in it."

The RareMinerals Skin Revival Treatment was really nothing but a mineral powder.  It seemed gimmicky to me, and seeing how it was discontinued after only 5 years, maybe so did everyone else.  I didn't think it was really a great idea to wear a powder to bed, but I had to try it, of course.  All it did for my skin was dry it out.

I do think this was a pretty unique product.

Do you remember RareMinerals?  Did you ever try it?

bareMinerals "The Dream Sequence" Swatches and EotD

So, bareMinerals used to only sell loose powder products.  A few years ago, they branched out into skincare, then added pressed eyeshadows and blushes.  Now they have a liquid foundation.  So much for the "only powder for the skin because it has no binders and no pore-clogging ingredients!"  I don't mean to rip on the brand, but they were awfully fervent about their powders.  In any case, they do make some good stuff.  Case in point: their pressed "READY" eyeshadows.

Pardon the grubby packaging.  I've had this for at least 2 years.

The Dream Sequence is one of their "READY Eyeshadow 4.0" eyeshadow quads.  It contains a satin cream called 500 Thread Count, a purple-y taupe called Romp, a purple with blue duochrome quality called Bourdoir, and a dusty dark purple called Nightcap.  The names are fun, aren't they?

With the exception of the cream color, which is a little sheer (which I find acceptable because I really only use it as a highlight color), the shadows are soft and well pigmented.

Here is the eye of the day I created using the quad.

I used:
Romp (shimmery purple taupe) on the moving lid
a mix of Boudoir (bright purple) and Nightcap (dark purple) in the crease
Nightcap on the outer third of the lower lashline
500 Thread Count (satin cream) under the brow and in the inner corner
Maybelline Full 'N Soft Mascara (one coat)

This is a really pretty set of eyeshadows, and I'm impressed by the quality.  The bareMinerals READY Eyeshadow 4.0 quads are $30 USD.

Hobbit Inspired Face of the Day

My husband and I saw "The Desolation of Smaug" in 3D on Christmas day.  It inspired me to wear what I think of as Middle Earth colors (green and gold for the Shire) on my eyes the next day.

Eyes: Marc Jacobs The Starlet palette -- gold color
BareMinerals Glimmer eyeshadow in True Gold
Fyrinnae Enchanting Otters -- crease and outer v, and lower lashline
LORAC PRO palette -- Taupe in the crease
Sephora Mattifying Foundation -- under the brow
Physicians Formula Eye Booster Pen -- upper lashline (I put a little more
True Gold over top of it)
         Maybelline Full 'N Soft Mascara

Cheeks: Stila All Over Glow Face Color and Luminizer in Pretty Pink -- blush, highlight
Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer in Milk Chocolate -- contour

Lips: Urban Decay Revolution lipstick on Lovelight

I've been using Fyrinnae's Enchanting Otters (green with lots of gold sparkle) frequently as of late.  It is so incredibly pretty.

I forgot to include swatches of Naked and Shroom.  Dangit.

Aren't these tiny candy cane earrings adorable?  I "borrowed" them from my mom years ago.

BareMinerals The Dream Sequence FotD

I was in the mood for some purples today, so I used my Dream Sequence quad from BareMinerals.  These are some of the nicest shadows I've used.  They are buttery and soft, and have excellent pigmentation.  The Dream Sequence has a gorgeous duochrome light purple that has a blue shift, which is what I used on my lid.

BareMinerals Ready Eyeshadow 4.0 The Dream Sequence

BareMinerals Ready eyeshadows are really beautiful.  They have a buttery, soft texture with excellent color payoff, and blend easily on the eye.  I have had my eye on The Dream Sequence quad for ages since I love purple eyeshadows and finally decided to pick it up.  This quad comes with a matte cream white, a shimmering purpley taupe, a bright light duochrome puprle with blue shift, and a matte dark plum.  The plum is the sheerest of the bunch, but still performs well on the eyelid.  I can get a full day of wear with no creasing or fading with a primer underneath.

All of the shadows have their own name.

Here is the EOTD I did using the quad.
