Darling Girl Eyes of the Day

I placed my first order with Darling Girl, which is an indie company based in Texas, not too long ago, and I used 3 of the colors for this look.  I'm planning to do a post with swatches of all the colors I bought soon.

This is Darling Girl shadows in Seven Days Later on the lid, Bio-Exorcist in the crease, and Camp Blood in the inner corner and under the brow as highlight.  I also patted a little Camp Blood on the center of the lid over Seven Days Later.

I am very impressed with the shadows I've tried thus far.  The colors are all quite complex and perform differently depending on the base, so you can make lots of different looks.

Thanks for visiting and have a wonderful day!

Birthday!

Yesterday was my birthday, and more importantly election day!  We had an important proposal to vote on that was about equality and anti-dicsrimination called the 2013 Human Rights Ordinance.

So, I turned 29!  Again!  For the 8th year in a row!  I'll let you do the math if you feel like it.

I did a few things besides get older.

I voted!  P.S. I'm not sunburned, it's just the indoor light.

I took both kitties to the vet.  Here's Charlie getting ready to go.

I wore some cute pants from Target.

My husband took me to my favorite Indian restaurant where I had Chicken Korma.

And because this is a beauty blog, here's what I wore on my face.

Eyes: Wet 'n' Wild Shimmer the Night Away palette (limited edition from last year I think)
-- silver all over the lid
-- dark grey in the outer v (just a hint of it)
Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum
         Maybelline Full N' Soft Mascara

Cheeks:  Nars Blush in Orgasm

Lips:  Maybelline Color Elixer Lipgloss in Blush Essence (095)

I'm hoping to have some really huge obnoxious birthday haul to show you after I get back from going to Chicago this weekend.  (not really, but sort of)

Have a wonderful day everyone!

What's on my nails today?

Sally Hansen Lustre Shine Nail Color in Firefly!

This is a great autumn nail polish.  It goes on smoothly and is just about opaque in two coats.  It lasts on me for about five days without chipping, even without a top coat.

It is a duochrome color that looks pinky copper with a green shift.

This is definitely one of my favorites!

What's on your nails?  Any fall favorite colors?

Look of the Day Gemstone Series: Citrine/Imperial Topaz

It's now November, so I thought it would be appropriate to do a look inspired by November's birthstone.  November actually has two birthstones, citrine and topaz.

Citrine varies in color from "pastel yellow to dark brownish orange" (American Gem Society description), and is an affordable, fairly common gemstone.

Topaz comes in many colors, but according to the American Gem Society, the most prized color is the Imperial Topaz, which has a "magnificent orange body color with pinkish undertones."

I focused on the orange tones of both gemstones.

5 Recent Favorites

It's the end of the month (okay, the beginning), so I guess it is time for some favorites.

Here are 5 items I used frequently during the month of October.

Nivea Lip Butter in Raspberry Rose Kiss (review here) -- This is smooth and hydrating, and it smells wonderful.  I keep this by my desk so I can apply it throughout the day (especially when I can't find the lipstick of gloss I was wearing at the beginning of the day).  I also swipe a little on my lips before bed.

Josie Maran Cheek GelĂ©e in Poppy Paradise (review here) -- This is one of the easiest blushes I own, both to apply and wear.  It gives a lovely flush to the cheeks that goes with everything.

Stila Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer in Bare (review here) -- This has been a mainstay in my makeup bag for ages.  It gives me just the right amount of coverage that I want, doesn't oxidize, and has broad spectrum SPF 20.  It seems to almost always make it into my favorites lists.  I wear it 5-6 days out of the week and have repurchased it 3 or 4 times.

Maybelline Mega-Plush Mascara -- I have been using this quite a bit.  I like how I can layer it without it ever becoming crunchy.  It does take a couple of layers to get a great amount of volume.

NYX Love in Paris eyeshadow palette in Pardon My French (review here) -- This just seems like the best fall palette.  I love the oranges with the greens, as well as the golds and browns.  I'm surprised how often I've reached for this since I like to mix up my eye makeup so much.

I wish I had some empties, but I think the only thing I used up was some Neutrogena makeup wipes!

Other favorites: lots of horror films and Halloween candy!

Things I'm looking forward to:  my birthday, a couple of operas (Parsifal in Chicago and La Traviata in Detroit), seeing family on turkey day.

What have your favorites been this month?  What are you looking forward to in the month of November?
