A Couple of Maybelline Fails (For Me)

I don't like writing negative reviews, but I think honesty is important.  Not everything out there is fantastic and beautiful and wonderful and amazing and... well, you get the idea.  I tried a couple of Maybelline products recently that just did not work for me.

Affordable Face of the Day

I recently did a face of the day post using nothing but high end/expensive stuff, so I thought I'd do one using nothing but stuff available at the drugstore.

Mulberry Nails and Look of the Day

There are times when I like being all match-y match-y with my makeup.  But instead of doing the traditional match-y match-y thing with my lips and nails, I decided to try to match my nails to my eyeshadow.

Butter London's Queen Vic is a wonderful berry shade that seems like a rather fall friendly color to me, and it's the shade I wanted to wear on my eyes, too.

So, the shadow I used doesn't match the nail color perfectly, but I liked the result nonetheless.

I used: from the Sephora Color Anthology Palette
--- berry purple on the moving lid
--- warm shimmery brown in the crease
--- light matte peach above the crease to blend out the brown
--- matte cream under the brow and inner corner

Physicians Formula Eye Booster liquid eyeliner in Ultra Black
          Maybelline Full 'N Soft Mascara

And then, later in the day, I decided to put on a berry lipgloss (MAKE UP FOR EVER lipgloss that was discontinued ages ago) just for the heck of it.

I think I look paler in this photo because I'm shiny and reflective (I didn't remember to reapply powder before I took it.)

The Sephora Color Anthology Palette was available around the holidays last year, but I snagged it on sale in the spring.  I noticed that Ulta has a palette on their website (by Beauty Gems) that looks exactly like it.  I suspect it is actually the same palette but without the Sephora nameplate on the front.

Earworm of the day: Lady Gaga's "Applause" -- it's on my workout playlist, and today it just stuck afterward.

Shimmery Copper Bronze Eyes of the Day

I love shimmery eye makeup.  (And the rest of the face, really, but lets stick to the eyes today.)

I used Mally Evercolor Shadow Stick in Topaz, a rich, shimmery, reddish coppery brown, as a base for this look on the lids and lower lashline.

Topaz is incredibly creamy, but "dries" quite quickly, so super fast blending is required in order to soften any edges.

I used the incredibly shimmery LORAC TANtalizer Baked Bronzer all over the lid, into the crease, and the lower lashline.  I actually prefer using this bronzer as an eyeshadow, and not so much as a bronzer on the face because it is SO shimmery.  I used theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer, a beautiful shimmery gold highlighter, under the brows and in the inner corner.

To darken the crease, I did use a matte shade.  It ended up looking not matte and pretty shimmery because it was blended into the shimmery bronzer shade.  I chose to use Sable, a matte warm chocolate brown, from the LORAC PRO Palette as the darker crease color.

For liner on my lower waterline, I used Tarina Tarantino Hyperliner in Tommy Jet, a black eyeliner.  Maybelline Full 'N Soft was the mascara I used.

More photos of the shimmery eye makeup:

I think this shot shows just how shimmery the Mary-Lou Manizer is as a highlight under the brow.

I tried to include the word "shimmery" as many times as I could in this post.  I'm not sure I used it enough, so... shimmery shimmery shimmery shimmery.  There you go.

Have a wonderful day, friends!!

Face of the Day With Some Drugstore Favorites

There is so much good makeup to find at the drugstore these days.  I decided to use nothing but some of my drugstore favorites today.  The hardest part was choosing which favorites to use!

Complexion:
Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation -- I like the fluid texture and light-medium coverage of this foundation.
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Concealer -- This has a lovely light texture, but covers well, and it doesn't settle into my wrinkles.
Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder -- Non-powdery and non-cakey.  Important qualities for a face powder.

Cheeks:
Milani Illuminating Face Powder in Amber Nectar -- I use this as a bronzer.  It gives a lovely glow to the skin.
Milani Baked Blush in Corallina -- A beautiful coral blush.  Of note: this is sparkly.  But I like sparkly stuff.  It's also really pretty in the pan.

Eyes:
Wet 'n' Wild Petal Pusher Palette -- I adore purple eyeshadows, so this is right up my alley.  The texture of the shadows is quite soft.  I used the "definer" shade from the left side as the only color on my lids for this look.  It's more sheer than the other shadows in the palette, but it's still pretty.  It's a sparkly bluish purple.
Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum -- I like the calligraphy-style brush on this liquid liner.
L'Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara -- My favorite mascara at the moment.  It gives lots of length to my lashes.

sparkly!

Lips:
NYX Lipliner Pencil in Nectar -- Nectar is a very pretty, slightly metallic coral.  It's fairly creamy for a lip pencil.
Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick in Fresh Papaya -- This chubby lip crayon is quite moisturizing and almost balm-like, smells nice and fruity, and gives a good dose of color to the lips. Fresh Papaya is a shimmery peachy coral.  One of my favorite lipsticks ever!

FotD with E.L.F. Ariel Treasure Within Beauty Book

I used my new Ariel palette from E.L.F. today.  I like this palette, and not just because it's got Ariel on it.  The shadows are pretty and shimmery, and they perform nicely.  The bronzers are quite pigmented!

I can't tell you why my lips look two-tone.  The photo only looks that way when I upload it to blogger.  I didn't retouch the photo in any way.  I will admit, it looks kind of cool, though.

Eyes: from the E.L.F. Ariel Treasure Within Beauty Book --
For Shore (shimmery bronze) on the lid
Siren Song (shimmery burnt orange) in the crease
Sand Dollar (shimmery ivory) under the brow and in the inner corner
Tropical Wave (shimmery teal) on the lower lashline

Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Serum Liner liquid liner in Ultra Black
     L'Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara

Cheeks: from the E.L.F. Ariel Treasure Within Beauty Book --
Conch Shell (darker shade) to contour
                   Tan Lanes (lighter shade)
Clinique Cheek Pop blush in Ginger Pop

Lips: Maybelline The Elixir lipgloss in Celestial Coral

Conch Shell, Tan Lines

Clinique Ginger Pop, Maybelline Celestial Coral lipgloss

Fun palette!  But, does anyone else think "seashell" is kind of an odd name for the purple color? Although, now that I think about it, seashells do come in all sorts of colors.

Have a fantastic day, and thanks for visiting!
