FotD with E.L.F. Ariel Treasure Within Beauty Book

I used my new Ariel palette from E.L.F. today.  I like this palette, and not just because it's got Ariel on it.  The shadows are pretty and shimmery, and they perform nicely.  The bronzers are quite pigmented!

I can't tell you why my lips look two-tone.  The photo only looks that way when I upload it to blogger.  I didn't retouch the photo in any way.  I will admit, it looks kind of cool, though.

Eyes: from the E.L.F. Ariel Treasure Within Beauty Book --
For Shore (shimmery bronze) on the lid
Siren Song (shimmery burnt orange) in the crease
Sand Dollar (shimmery ivory) under the brow and in the inner corner
Tropical Wave (shimmery teal) on the lower lashline

Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Serum Liner liquid liner in Ultra Black
     L'Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara

Cheeks: from the E.L.F. Ariel Treasure Within Beauty Book --
Conch Shell (darker shade) to contour
                   Tan Lanes (lighter shade)
Clinique Cheek Pop blush in Ginger Pop

Lips: Maybelline The Elixir lipgloss in Celestial Coral

Conch Shell, Tan Lines

Clinique Ginger Pop, Maybelline Celestial Coral lipgloss

Fun palette!  But, does anyone else think "seashell" is kind of an odd name for the purple color? Although, now that I think about it, seashells do come in all sorts of colors.

Have a fantastic day, and thanks for visiting!

E.L.F. Disney Ariel Treasure Within Beauty Book Swatches

Look what I got my hands on!

I'm such a sucker for Ariel stuff.  She is my favorite Disney princess.  I have Ariel t-shirts, pajamas, the fancy Diamond Edition Blu-Ray DVD combo pack of the film, a gorgeous Ariel mug, of course the Sephora Ariel Storylook palette, and now the E.L.F. Ariel Treasure Within Beauty Book.  I have also been told by more than one little kid that I have red hair "like Ariel" (yes, it's out of a box, but still...).

The palette opens up like a book.

The nautilus shell is actually a mirror!

The side with the nautilus shell opens to reveal a face chart.

Here's what the whole palette looks like fully opened up.

After first seeing this collection on Nouveau Cheap, I knew I was going to have to track down the face palette.  I considered buying it online as soon as it showed up on drugstore.com and walgreens.com, but by the time I had decided to do so, it had sold out (well, drugstore.com has it on backorder).  Sheesh.  Worse than a limited edition MAC collection.  Anyhow, after looking up on walgreens.com what stores supposedly had it in stock, I did some driving and was able to find it!  The store also had the brush set, but I decided against it, because, with the exception of the shader eyeshadow brush, they didn't look like brushes I would really use.  The crystals on the handles and the little carrying case were cute, though.

The shadows are on the sheer side, but pack a little more punch over a primer.  The only matte shade is the purple called "Seashell".

Swatches dry, with no primer:

top row: Sand Dollar, Coral Reef, Tropical Wave

middle row: North Star, For Shore, Siren Song

bottom row: Seaweed, Seashell, Brilliant Sea

Swatches dry over E.L.F. Eyelid Primer:

bottom row

The bronzers are fairly dark, have a little sheen to them, and give lots of color.

The lipgloss is decently pigmented for a gloss, isn't sticky, and smells and tastes sweet.

The eyeshadow brush is quite nice and soft.  It is better than the brush that came with the Maleficent eyeshadow set from last fall.

The E.L.F. Disney Ariel Treasure Within Beauty Book retails for $10 USD.

Part of me wishes Disney had been more faithful to the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale and kept the story a tragedy with the little mermaid throwing herself into the sea because she can't bear to kill the prince she loves and then transforming into seafoam and then becoming a spirit.  Quite beautiful, but maybe a little much for the traditional Disney audience.

What's In My Travel Makeup Bag?

I'm going out of town for a few days (so fewer posts this week), so I thought I'd share with you what's in my travel makeup bag (this does not include skincare).  I am not flying, so I don't need to worry about being FAA compliant.  I'm just driving myself, so I can kind of have as large a bag as I want, but I'm only going for 2-3 days (or more, depending on the weather), so I don't really need much.  I'm also just going to see family, but I like to be able to be fancy with my makeup if I feel like it.

I tried to make this photo all artsy with stuff tumbling out of the bag.

My sparkly purple makeup bag is the Urban Decay 15th Anniversary Quinceanera bag (no longer available).

Here's what made the cut:

Stila Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer -- This is my favorite "base" product.  I don't usually wear a true foundation on a daily basis, but if we were going to get dressed up for any reason, I would take a foundation with me.

Wet 'n' Wild Coverall Pressed Powder -- This just happens to be the setting powder I'm using right now.  I want to try the Rimmel Stay Matte powder next.

Too Faced Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blush in Candy Glow -- I like how this has pink and coral colors so it works with cool and warm-toned looks.  Plus, it has some light shimmer to it, so it gives a little luminosity to the skin, and I can skip the highlighter.

Maybelline Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Corrector -- My favorite concealer.

LORAC Creamy Brow Pencil in Auburn -- A pencil with a spoolie brush on one end is convenient.

Urban Decay Primer Potion -- If I'm going to wear eyeshadow, I need a primer.  (I don't feel the same way about traveling with face primers, because the serum I use in my skincare regime works as a primer if I want to use it as such).

Tarina Tarantino Hyperliner eye pencil in Tommy Jet -- A great waterproof black pencil liner.

Too Faced Pretty Rebel eyeshadow palette -- There are so many looks that can be created with this palette, and the shadows themselves are amazing.  I could have picked the Naked or Naked 3 palette, but my family kind of gets a kick out of my colorful eyeshadows, so I chose this.

Maybelline Full 'N Soft Mascara -- My favorite everyday mascara at the moment.  I considered putting in my Benefit They're Real mascara, but I want something that removes easily, and I don't need the dramatic lashes that mascara gives me when I'm just visiting my family.

Real Techniques Powder Brush -- It's a little on the huge side, but it fits in my bag, and it is currently my favorite powder brush.

Eco Tools Travel Powder Brush -- I think this came in their 5 piece mineral brush set (I acquired it quite a while ago).  I use it as a blush brush.

Eyeshadow Brushes: E.L.F. Eyeshadow "C" brush, MAC 217 blending brush, Sephora Crease brush, Sonia Kashuk blending brush (it doesn't have a number or name on it), Sephora cat eyeliner brush (came in a set with another brush).

I also considered throwing in Josie Maran Coconut Water Cheek Gelee in Poppy ParadiseMilani Illuminating Face Powder in Amber Nectar (which is held together by packing tape), and  Benefit Speed Brow brow gel.

I haven't included lip products, because I carry those in my purse.  I'll have to do a "what's in my purse?" post soon.

If I was just going overnight, I would take less than this.  Probably just tinted moisturizer, blush, mascara, brow gel, a cream eyeshadow so I can skip the eyeshadow brushes (I usually take Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze), and what ever lippies are in my purse.

How much do you take with you for short trips?  Have you ever regretted not having something with you?

Dragon Inspired Look of the Evening

I have these awesome boots that my husband gave me years ago that I decided to wear to La Traviata (the Verdi opera we went to see at the Detroit Opera House this past weekend).

The dragons on the boots are what inspired my makeup for the evening.

Eyes:  Marc Jacobs eyeshadow palette in The Starlet -- gold color on the lid
E.L.F. eyeshadow palette from the Maleficent set -- dark green in crease
Tarina Tarantino Hyperliner in Tommy Jet -- lower waterline
          Benefit They're Real Mascara

Cheeks:  Milani Illuminating Powder in Amber Nectar -- cheekbones
Tarte Amazonian Clay blush in Exposed -- apples of the cheeks

Lips:  Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Demure

Marc Jacobs The Starlet palette gold color, E.L.F. palette dark green color, Tarina Tarantino Tommy Jet eyeliner

Milani Illuminating Powder in Amber Nectar, Tarte blush in Exposed, Revlon lipstick in Demure

Just for fun, here are a couple photos of the Detroit Opera House.

What did you do for fun this weekend?
