EotD with MAC Silver Sun

Silver Sun seems like kind of an odd name for a "midtone dirty sea foam green" (MAC's description). It's a gorgeous color no matter what the name.

Lid -- MAC Silver Sun Extra Dimension Eyeshadow (from the Alluring Aquatics collection)
Crease -- Glasswing (matte dark tan) from the Kat Von D Chrysalis palette
Under brow -- Lifelike (matte cream) from the Kat Von D Chrysalis palette
Fresh Supernova Mascara (using up an old sample!)

Quite a simple look, but pretty I think.

Mother's Day 2014 and EotD

I hope everyone had a happy Mother's Day!  I had a great one.  My parents came to Detroit on Saturday to go to the opera, and they stayed over night so we could spend Mother's Day at the "Royal Oak In Bloom" flower sale.  The weather ended up being perfect -- mostly sunny and around 70 degrees.  We wondered around the sale for a few hours and saw lots of gorgeous things to buy.  My mom bought a bunch of perennials for her rather sizable garden, and I found some Forget-Me-Nots.

Forget-Me-Nots

I would have liked to buy more, but I'm running out of room for new plants in my garden!  My husband was hoping to find some carnivorous plants to add to his collection, but, alas, there were none to be had. My dad brought a chair along so he could sit and let us shop while he worked on some physics calculations.

Then, we went to my favorite Indian restaurant for their lunch buffet, where I may have gone slightly overboard.  I looooove that restaurant, but my tummy is always overly full when I leave.  Everything tastes SO DANG GOOD.

Because this is a beauty blog, here is my EotD for Mother's Day.  It is really simple and features shadows from the Too Faced à la mode palette, which is part of their summer collection.

You can see some of the sparkliness here.

I used Jardin on the lid, Soleil in the crease, and St. Tropez under the brow and in the inner corner.  I applied one thin coat of Fresh Supernova mascara.

Jardin, Soleil, St. Tropez

Aaaand, for some mysterious reason, I didn't take any pics with my mom!  So here is her gorgeous engagement portrait circa 1967:

I almost forgot to mention my other mothers!  We sent some tulip and iris bouquets to my mother-in-law and step-mother-in-law because we weren't able to see them  :(  (sad face).  We are hoping to be able to see both of them this summer.

Did you celebrate Mother's Day?

Warm Silver EotD

I am enjoying the Kat Von D Chrysalis palette immensely.  Today I used some of the silver colors, along with the warm dark tan and the dark (almost black) matte navy blue.

You can see a wee bit of sparkle on the outer corner.

From the Kat Von D Chrysalis palette:
Melancholia (metallic platinum) on the inner 2/3 of the lid
Tornay (very dark matte navy blue) on the outer 1/3 of the lid and lower lashline
Lunar Lights (light pearly white silver) in the inner corner
Glasswing (warm medium tan) in the crease
Tarina Tarantino Hyperliner in Tommy Jet (black) on the waterline

I can't quite get over the awesome packaging of this palette.  Those are skulls on the wings.

Have a gorgeous day!

Makeup for the Doctor

I went to see my headshrinker today, and while I was doing my makeup I realized I was creating a much more natural look than I usually do.  I seem to be more conservative with my makeup if I'm going to see him, which is silly because he knows I have a beauty blog and used to work in the cosmetics industry and clearly love makeup.  What's weirder is I wear whatever kind of crazy/dramatic makeup I feel like wearing when going to see my GP.  So, who knows what my deal is.  *shrug*

Yes, my hair really was that weird.  It was windy and humid.

I wore NARS Laguna bronzer on my lids as an eyeshadow and on my cheeks as a bronzer.  I wore Maybelline Color Elixir lipgloss in Blush Essence on my lips, and I used Fresh Supernova mascara on my lashes (I'm trying to use up a little wee one I've had for a while).  So, some exciting makeup, clearly.

Do you change your look in any way when going to the doctor?

Green EotD with Wet 'n' Wild Comfort Zone

This colors in this eye of the day look reminded me of shamrocks once I was finished with it.  I'll have to remember to recreate it for St. Patrick's Day.

Eyes: Wet 'n' Wild Comfort Zone palette
-- "eyelid" color (shimmery moss green) on the moving lid and lower lashline
-- "crease" color (dark brown-y sparkling green) in the crease and outer v
-- "definer" color (dark brown with green flash) along the upper lashline
Wet 'n' Wild Color Icon single in Brulee (matte cream) under the brow and to blend crease
Urban Decay eyeshadow in Loaded (dark blue-tinged green) tiny bit in outer v
        Fresh Supernova Mascara

Comfort Zone is a great palette.  The shadows have a lovely formula, and it is quite versatile because it has 6 beautiful neutrals (I think the "browbone" color and "crease" color on the right side are neutrals) that work incredibly well for everyday, but you can also mix in some shimmery green for something a little different it so desired.  Plus it's around $5 USD!

Brilliant!

I'm feeling kind of lazy blog writing-wise, so I'm just doing a quick face of the day post.

"browbone" color on the inner half of lid and inner corner
"eyelid" color on the outer half of lid
"crease" color on the outer v and lower lashline
Tarina Tarantino Hyperliner in Tommy Jet on the lower waterline
           Fresh Supernova Mascara

Cheeks: Be a Bombshell The One Stick in Sunset
              NARS blush in Orgasm

I really enjoy reading other people's face of the day posts.  I find them quite inspiring, and they often encourage me to try new things with my makeup.  Some of my favorites are the ones Sheila does over at painted-ladies.com.

Have a gorgeous day, everyone!

Vampire!

Who doesn't love a glamorous vampire look for Halloween?  Pfft, or anytime?  Here's mine.

The natural lighting for this photo really blew out my skin, which I actually like for the vampire look.

Eyes:  Urban Decay Primer Potion
Sonia Kashuk Jewel of an Eye Palette -- plummy red, plum shadows
          Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy
MAKE UP FOR EVER Star Powder 950 -- black gold
Fyrinnae Loose Eyeshadow in Velvet Vampire -- sparkling red
Tarina Tarantino Hyperliner in Tommy Jet (black)
          Ardell Lashes
Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Eyeliner + Serum in Ultra Black
          Fresh Supernova Mascara

Brows:  LORAC Creamy Brow Pencil in Auburn

Face:  Becca Radiant Skin Satin Finish Foundation in Shell
Sephora Mattifying Compact Foundation Powder in Light
Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer in Milk Chocolate
Tarte Amazonian Clay blush in Dollface

Lips:  Estee Lauder Pure Color Long-Lasting Lipstick in Vintage Sherry (old limited edition)

For my eyes:
I primed my eyelids with Urban Decay's Primer Potion and applied the plummy red shade of shadow from the Sonia Kashuk palette all over the lids up into the crease and blended up to the brow, as well as on the lower lashline.  I didn't use any highlight under the brow.  In the crease, I used the plum color from the palette. I patted some Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy on my moving lid and a little into the crease.  I then patted and brushed the MAKE UP FOR EVER star powder, which is very black and has fine gold glitter, into the crease and outer v and blended it in with the red.  Then, I patted Fyrinnae eyeshadow in Velvet Vampire (a shade from their Arcane Magic colors), which is a fiery red with some red and gold glitter, all over the moving lid.  With a thin angled liner brush, I lined my lower lashes with the MAKE UP FOR EVER star powder, and lined my upper and lower waterlines with Tarina Tarantino Tommy Jet (black) eyeliner.  I applied some false lashes and lined the lashline with the Physician's Formula black liquid liner.  I used Fresh Supernova mascara to complete the eyes.

For my face:
I used primer and liquid foundation, as well as powder foundation for lots of matte coverage.  I swept Too Faced Chocolate Soleil bronzer in Milk Chocolate (a light bronzer) in the hollows of my cheeks to contour my cheekbones.  I very lightly brushed Tarte Amazonian Clay blush in Dollface (a light cool pink) on the apples of my cheeks.

For my lips:
I only used Estee Lauder Pure Color Long-Lasting Lipstick in Vintage Sherry.

And, because all of my other facial expressions in today's pics were meant to convey the serious "I'm a vampire" attitude, here's one of me grinning like a fool.

Of note -- I won't be biting anyone this year.  I have some vampire fangs, but I didn't wear them since I have to wear my Invisaligns... I can't even bite a piece of bread with those things in.

Have a safe and happy Halloween, everyone!
