Matte Pink Lips Look of the Day

There are times when bare eyes (well, with mascara on the lashes) and matte pink lips feel nice and fresh.

I discovered that Kat Von D's Everlasting Face Shaper Blush in Por Vida looks wonderful with Revlon's Colorburst Matte Balm in Elusive.  They are both bright warm pinks that are just variations of the same shade.

Kat Von D's Everlasting Face Shaper Blush is a very nice formula.  Finely milled, pigmented, and long-wearing.  The pan is pretty huge, and the compact is cool looking with the stylized roses and Kat Von D name.  I do wish the name of the blush was shorter. ;)  Por Vida is a bright pink with a hint of shimmer that I can hardly detect on the face.

This is one of those products I keep in the box because I like the box so much.

Garden of Eden Eyes of the Day

It's no secret that I love colorful eyeshadow.  Purples and greens are probably my favorite colors, so I figured I better make the Sleek Garden of Eden eyeshadow palette mine.  I ordered mine from Amazon, but Sleek also delivers to the US, so it is possible to order directly from them.

I used three of the green shades and one of the brown-y plummy shades for today's eyes of the day.

I used: Evergreen all over the moving lid and the inner 1/3 of the lower lashline
          Fauna in the outer v and crease, and the outer 2/3 of the lower lashline
          Tree of Life as liner on the upper lashline
          Flora in the upper part of the crease blended up towards the brow

         L'Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara

The greens in this palette are gorgeous.  Super shimmery and wonderfully pigmented.  I do find all of the shimmery shadows to be quite soft and slightly fragile.  The matte shades are a little stiffer, but definitely workable.

If you love greens and plums, you might just want to get your hands on the Garden of Eden palette.

Face of the Day With Some Drugstore Favorites

There is so much good makeup to find at the drugstore these days.  I decided to use nothing but some of my drugstore favorites today.  The hardest part was choosing which favorites to use!

Complexion: 

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation -- I like the fluid texture and light-medium coverage of this foundation.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Concealer -- This has a lovely light texture, but covers well, and it doesn't settle into my wrinkles.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder -- Non-powdery and non-cakey.  Important qualities for a face powder.

Cheeks:

Milani Illuminating Face Powder in Amber Nectar -- I use this as a bronzer.  It gives a lovely glow to the skin.
Milani Baked Blush in Corallina -- A beautiful coral blush.  Of note: this is sparkly.  But I like sparkly stuff.  It's also really pretty in the pan.

Eyes:

Wet 'n' Wild Petal Pusher Palette -- I adore purple eyeshadows, so this is right up my alley.  The texture of the shadows is quite soft.  I used the "definer" shade from the left side as the only color on my lids for this look.  It's more sheer than the other shadows in the palette, but it's still pretty.  It's a sparkly bluish purple.

Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum -- I like the calligraphy-style brush on this liquid liner.

L'Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara -- My favorite mascara at the moment.  It gives lots of length to my lashes.

Lips:

NYX Lipliner Pencil in Nectar -- Nectar is a very pretty, slightly metallic coral.  It's fairly creamy for a lip pencil.

Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick in Fresh Papaya -- This chubby lip crayon is quite moisturizing and almost balm-like, smells nice and fruity, and gives a good dose of color to the lips. Fresh Papaya is a shimmery peachy coral.  One of my favorite lipsticks ever!

Styling Your Face the 1981 Way

Look at this cool book my sister gave me!

This is a rather interesting book from 1981 by makeup artist Way Bandy.  Way Bandy was a well-known makeup artist during the '70s and '80's who worked with high-end fashion designers and celebrities.  He was well known for using lots of fluid/liquid products to create a seamless, skin-like finish.  Harper's Bazaar called him a "makeup magician", and People said he was the "world's leading makeup artist."  Styling Your Face was Bandy's second book.  His first book, Designing Your Face, was released in 1977.

I think one of the most interesting aspects of the book is the fact that there are no photographs.  All of the pictures are drawings.

Even the product descriptions use drawings.

I found a couple of the writings also kind of amusing:

First, the Chinoiserie Face explains how to get the brows in the look, but with a disclaimer.

The Teenage Face has a whole blurb about skincare to go along with the makeup look.

I'm not sure many dermatologists would agree with the skincare regimen laid out here.  Yogurt/sour cream, cornmeal, lemon juice?  Sounds like a recipe for skin problems.

Something else I found cool was the inclusion of makeup for men.

There are a total of 15 looks in the book.  I'm not going to show you them all, because this post would get awfully long, but here are three more.

I actually really love many of the looks in this book.  Does that mean I like dated makeup?  Maybe.
